Friday Fun Fact- The Secret to Yummy Rice Krispy Bars
One of my favorite snacks to make and that the kids LOVE is Rice Krispy Treats. In 15 minutes, I have a pan of yummy treats for them, and clean-up is as easy as tossing everything into the dishwasher.
I’ve been told my recipe has been a real success when I have sent them along for youth mission trips, also.
I have a secret recipe— see below for all its goodness, and enjoy!
There are 2 ‘secret ingredients’ that seem to set my recipe apart- at least according to my kids when I’ve dared to change the recipe in the past: use real butter (never margarine) and add vanilla extract. There is the ‘don’t skimp on the marshmallows’ rule, but that should be a given.
Recipe-
- 6 cups Rice Krispy cereal (I’ve tried generic- it doesn’t come out as good, sorry!)
- 10 oz. bag of marshmallows
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
– Spray all tools and bowls with non-stick cooking spray because this is sticky work!
-Pour the cereal into a very large mixing bowl, set aside.
-In an 8 cup Pyrex bowl dump in the marshmallows and butter (I cut it into 6-8 chunks). Microwave for 30 second bursts until the marshmallows start rising in a gooey mountain- but stop before it overflows.
-Stir the vanilla into the marshmallow goo and dump everything into the cereal.
-Mix like crazy until all the cereal is coated and dump it all into 9×13 pan. Use a flat spatula to mush the mixture flat and even and let it cool off.

Cut into 8 humongous yummy gooey squares and let the kids loose on ’em while you pretend you’re not sneaking bits from the pan (yeah- they know).
If anyone has their own version, let me know!
Happy Baking!
